morning, first up, gwinnettdailypost has a report where jessica alba joins a growing list of actresses 'name dropping' nat..hmmm, let's see, there was lindsay lohan, reese witherspoon, amanda bynes, hilary duff to name a few..
excerpt:
During recent interviews, actress Jessica Alba has complained to the press that she's only being offered 'bimbo' roles and she'd prefer to get the same kind of projects Natalie Portman receives (funny, seeing as how both women played strippers in recent movies and Alba played a scientist in another)..
speaking of actresses, taipeitimes on ziyi zhang & nat..
excerpt:
Zhang Ziyi, the ultimate Chinese diva in the eyes of Western audiences, has been ridiculed by local media again. This time her poor English was the focus of attacks. The latest edition of Interview magazine ranked Zhang as one of the most incredible stars for next year, and arranged an interview with her by Natalie Portman, according to the Great Daily News. When asked if Chinese people prefer watching movies at home, Zhang replied yes, "because they are couch tomatoes." Portman paused in perplexity for a minute, and responded, "Oh, you mean couch potatoes." The two beauties quickly laughed away the embarrassing moment, which seemed like the only courteous thing to do under such circumstances..

excerpt:
Enter Karina Castañeda. The 42-year-old hair stylist built a reputation as the go-to stylist for celebrities in America and abroad. From athletes to actresses, she's made them glam: models Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum and Naomi Campbell; actress Natalie Portman; and tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, to name a few..

hey there, here's a link to the discussion on that link I posted on AQMB. Most people don't think it's her. Somebody translated the Spanish to English so that's cool. I think it's her but I'm getting the feeling the general consensus is that most people disagree with me. It looks like her with hair extensions and without makeup. Or maybe her a few years ago. It's hard to say. [..]

moving along, aicn seems ecstatic that luc besson is directing again..

Below you have the poster (Quad) and some black and white behind the scenes stills. It's a celebration! Now if he'll just nab Portman and go ahead with MATHILDA I can die a happy man!"..

found the following tidbit from The Johns Hopkins News-Letter!!
excerpt:
Okay, let's face it. Exotic dancing brings a slew of stereotypes to mind. But for some reason, when these activities are incorporated into a mix of cardiovascular exercise and Pilates with a dash of self-confidence-building thrown into the recipe, out pops the hottest new fitness trend. And heck, if Harvard grad and actress Natalie Portman can spin around a pole in Closer, Hopkins women should be able to give it a whirl, too..
and finally, from gadgets-weblog.com..
excerpt:
On a visit to the Apple Store, I approached some "teenagers" (young people who enjoy techno music) and asked them whether the iPod Nano had warped their fragile minds. My conclusions were startling. All of the youngsters I spoke to thought the positively skeletal Nano was more attractive than rival players, while one gawky young upstart claimed the Nano was "hotter than Natalie Portman covered in hot grits"..

for JC (re: TIFF screenings at AQMB)
posted by anonymous on 2005-10-09 05:01
i don't feel like registering for and forgetting my password for the 10th time over.
Other than the two screenings listed on the TIFF program, there's also a third scheduled "secret" screening that usually takes place at one of the average sized theatres (200-250 person capacity) at the Varsity Cinemas just for press/industry people. You usually need press ID to snag one of the press/industry guides from the information desk so it's actually much easier to walk into the volunteer office and just grab a guide from there (people will just assume you're a volunteer and should be really friendly/helpful). Because of the size of the theatres, if a movie doesn't have a lot of buzz, festival volunteers can attend these screenings as well (you need to snag a pink volunteer voucher tho). However, if there's a lot of buzz attached to the film, volunteers are now filtered out of the queue so that only industry peeps can get in (this is in part because Roger Ebert complained about this kind of stuff in his column a few years ago). If there's mega-buzz, then the festival organizers will set up additional screenings in the Varsity VIP theatres (30-50 person capacity) solely for purchasers/studio execs. It's nigh-on impossible to get in there without credentials.
plus there's that VHS copies thing mentioned in the article.
many thanks anonymous!!

GRAB YOUR COPY OF PEOPLE MAG QUICK!!
why?! the mohawk has landed!!
excerpt:
People magazine is giving a shout out to celebrity mohawk wearers in its latest issue with a special mohawk Hall of Fame pictorial. What would a mohawk photo spread be without the king of mohawks himself, Mr. T? The 53-year-old, gold-chain-sporting celeb was given kudos for making the look tough. Also recognized were soccer legend David Beckham, 30, who rocked the buzz cut by giving it a sporty appeal, and Sean "Diddy" Combs, 35, who made the mohawk look stylish. "Star Wars" beauty Natalie Portman, 24, was the only female to make the list, with her look being the result of playing a terrorist in the upcoming thriller, "V for Vendetta." But the cutest Mohawk belonged to Angelina Jolie's son Maddox.
meanwhile, theglobeandmail sez in part that ''free zone'' is screening already at tiff??
Quote:
Who tops your must-meet list? I love Vince Vaughn; I think it would be really cool to meet Natalie Portman -- she seems like such a smart, talented young lady; and Guy Ritchie, who I'll be chatting with on the red carpet. How do you make time for movies? Certain screenings don't suit our schedules so we get VHS copies. I'm about to screen Natalie Portman's movie, Free Zone, right now. I've seen Water already; it's definitely an eye-opener.

FREE ZONE Dir Amos Gitai w/ Natalie Portman, Hanna Laslo. 90 min. Sep 14, 8:45pm, Paramount; Sep 15, 3:30pm, Ryerson. After opening with an uninterrupted 10-minute shot of Natalie Portman weeping, the latest by Israeli maverick Amos Gitai gives viewers plenty to cry about. Unfortunately, those may be tears of frustration. Named for the region where people from all over the Middle East come to sell cars, Free Zone devolves into a tiring mess of harangues and stereotypes as Portman, playing a young Jewish American with love trouble, hits the road with an Israeli driver (Hanna Laslo) and a Palestinian car dealer (Hiam Abbass). As he tries to convey the many difficulties Israelis and Palestinians have communicating with each other, Gitai exhibits a remarkable lack of subtlety. Free Zone is still a cut above the disappointing films the director has made since Kadosh and Kippur, but that's not saying much..
